Hot Hot Hot!

Wow, like most of the country, we are having a hot, dry summer.  On average, our area gets about 4.5" of rain between June 1 and mid-July.  This year, our total for that period is 1.18" :-( We need to water the garden every day.  But it is worth it - the garden looks great!  We enjoyed our first cherry tomatoes this week!  And surprisingly, the lettuce seems to be holding up in the heat.  The eggplant have flowers but no fruit so far.  And I'm wondering when the beans will flower?  But that is part of the joy of gardening - the anticipation and discovery of the mysteries of nature.

Happy St. Patrick's Day - Let's Get Started!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  What a great day to begin a blog about gardening because the traditional symbols of St. Patrick's Day are the color green and clovers!

Spring is here!  Gardeners everywhere have been waiting anxiously for spring - now it has arrived!  What can we plant?  Where can we plant it?  When can we get started?  Those are the questions gardeners are asking themselves.

The trees and shrubs are beginning to bud.  Crocuses are blooming.  The daffodils and tulips are poking their heads out of the ground.  We awake to the songs of birds.  Don't you love it?  Isn't spring wonderful?
